Smiths Industries has signed a memorandum of understanding with GKN Westland covering the supply of an integrated cockpit display system for the Super Lynx 300 helicopter.

The agreement also covers cockpit display equipment for the future development of other platforms.

The aircraft has been selected by the South African Navy, which has ordered four machines, and is being offered to Malaysia.

Smiths Industries says the new cockpit will harness advanced active matrix liquid crystal display technology.

At the heart of this will be six 'smart' integrated display units capable of displaying self-generating symbology and video.

Also included in the system are 5ATI and 3ATI instruments, a military application of products that were originally developed for commercial aircraft flightdecks.
