Good Week

EADS Airbus overcame a plunging US dollar to return to profit and help its parent post first quarter net profits of €285 million ($440 million), compared with a net loss of €10 million during the same period last year when Airbus was hit by heavy restructuring charges and lost €69 million. Group revenue was up 10%, to €9.85 billion, and chief executive Louis Gallois describes the quarter as "encouraging". Airbus delivered 123 aircraft during the three months.

Bad Week

Qantas A threatened work stoppage by unionised maintenance workers led the Australian carrier to cancel flights. Action by the Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers Association was called off, but the two sides face talks over pay. Qantas maintenance workers have been working under an enterprise wages agreement that expired 19 months ago they recently rejected the airline's offer of a 3% pay rise and a 1% increase in superannuation per annum.
