British electro-optical specialists Pilkington Optronics has delivered the first of two Guardian monocular helmet systems to the Aircraft Systems Directorate of Sweden's Defence Materiel Administration (FMV).
The system, which integrates a monocular helmet with integral colour camera, helmet display electronics unit and optical head tracker, is now installed in a Saab Gripen simulator and flying trials in the aircraft will start next year.
Pilkington's Glasgow factory worked with Cumulus, a division of Denel in South Africa, in optimising the system for the Gripen.
