Bombardier is bullish about its position in the region. The Canadian manufacturer has been buoyed by an MoU signed with China to develop five-abreast 90-149-seat regional airliners, as well as the appointment of Taikoo (Shandong) Aircraft Engineering Ltd (STAECO) of Ji’nan as the first Bombardier-recognised heavy maintenance facility in the region.

Bombardier aircraft are also being seen more frequently in the region, with 227 Q-Series turboprops and CRJ regional jets in service or on order.

In the static display, Bombardier is showcasing three of its fleet: the flagship ultra-long range Global Express XRS business jet; the super-midsize Challenger 300 jet and the latest evolution of the CRJ, the CRJ900 NextGen. The CRJ900 NextGen will be touring several other Asian countries immediately after the show.

Bombardier claims to be market leader in the large and ultra-long range segments in Asia, with a combined total of 100 aircraft registered in the region. It claims a market share of 64% in the large segment and 54% of the ultra-long-range segment.

In the halls the airframer is continuing the world tour of its CSeries cabin mock-up, featuring a forward galley with offset door configuration, two rows of business class seats, four rows of economy seats and an aft galley with lavatory. It also has rotating overhead bins and a modified fuselage cross-section for enhanced passenger comfort.
