The Guatemalan Congress has approved loans from Argentina and Brazil to buy six Embraer EMB-314 Super Tucanos, a command and control station and three ground-based radars.
The Super Tucano light attack and trainer aircraft and related equipment will be purchased using a $133 million loan from Brazil's National Bank of Economic and Social Development. A separate loan for $36 million from Argentina's Banco Bilbao Vizcaya will help Guatemala install three radars, which will be supplied by Embraer subsidiary Atech.
Guatemala selected the Super Tucano nearly three years ago to replace Cessna A-37B Dragonflys used in support of counter-drug operations, but the finalisation of the order has been delayed due to lack of financing. The nation's air force has three of the legacy type in use, as recorded by Flightglobal's MiliCAS database.

Guatemala could become the sixth Latin American country to deploy the Super Tucano, following Brazil, Chile, Colombia, the Dominican Republic and Ecuador. The aircraft has also been delivered to Burkina Faso and Indonesia and selected by Angola and Mauritania.
