Gulf Air is to start a non-stop Dublin-Bahrain service in December. This comes at a time when rival Middle East carriers such as Emirates are scouting for second-tier European airports to feed their own hubs. Days before the announcement, new Aer Lingus chief executive Dermot Mannion said he saw long-haul services to Asia and the Middle East as a key part of the Irish carrier’s strategy. Gulf says it expects to add another European route in the next 12-18 months.
