Gulf Air has signed a five-year, $100 million component support contract with Lufthansa Technik, under which it has outsourced inventory management and maintenance to the German company.

Under the total component support contract, Lufthansa Technik (LHT) will support Gulf Air's 34-strong fleet, comprising Airbus A320s, A330/A340s and Boeing 767s, with services for over 1,400 part numbers. The agreement includes the sale and lease-back of components as well as their maintenance and participation in LHT component pool.

It marks the first time LHT will provide total component support and management to an airline in the Gulf region and comes just months after the German company opened its first representative office in the region, located in Dubai. Gulf Air chief executive James Hogan says: "This contract is heavily supported by a strong business case."
