China's Hainan Airlines has applied to start a new service between Shanghai and Rome, and another service between Sanya and Seoul via Nanchang.

The airline plans to operate to Rome four times a week from July 2010, says the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), which has to approve the application.

Hainan will operate Airbus A330 aircraft on the route, says the CAAC.

It has also applied to start a twice-weekly Sanya-Nanchang-Seoul service from March 2010.

The carrier will operate Boeing 737-800 aircraft on the route, adds the CAAC.
