Australian aircraft sales and product support company Hawker Pacific is continuing its expansion in the region with the purchase of Sydney-based rotary-wing maintenance repair and overhaul company Flight Support International (FSI).

The acquisition is the latest stage in Hawker Pacific's growth, which has already seen it purchase New Zealand rotary-wing maintenance and repair company Wing and Rotor. The company has also recently expanded its helicopter sales activities with its appointment as the exclusive sales representative for Bell Helicopter in Australia and Papua New Guinea and as the sole Bell Helicopter Customer Services Facility in the Philippines and New Zealand. Hawker Pacific has been the sales representative for Bell Helicopter Textron and Bell/Agusta Aerospace in Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Oman for some time. It is also a sales representative for Raytheon's business jets, airliners, pistons and turboprops.

The FSI acquisition is part of Hawker Pacific's strategy of building its rotary-wing activities, in line with its fixed-wing sales and maintenance repair and overhaul business. "With this acquisition we can now deliver rotary-wing expertise throughout the region," says chief executive Alan Smith.

The buy is unlikely to be the last for Hawker Pacific, with more Asia-Pacific takeovers likely this year (Flight International, 9-15 March).
