SNECMA SUBSIDIARY Hispano-Suiza and ZF of Germany have formed a joint venture to supply high-power aerospace transmissions. The two will co-operate on a transmission for the Future Large Aircraft (FLA).

The new group will be called Aerospace Power Transmissions. An initial accord has been signed with BMW Rolls-Royce, which is proposing a powerplant for the turboprop-powered FLA.

Another European group, headed by Snecma, is proposing a competing powerplant for the aircraft, leading to some speculation about the position of the transmissions and thrust-reverser specialist within the Snecma group.

In a second European tie-up, Daimler-Benz Aerospace (DASA) of Germany and Russian avionics and aircraft-equipment manufacturer Aviapribor have established an avionics/air-traffic-control joint venture, to be based in Moscow.

DASA sensor-systems division president Jurgen Dangel says that the new company - DAVIA - will produce and sell equipment for navigation, flight guidance and air-traffic control.
