Honeywell and Avia-pribor, a Russian-based equipment supplier, have formed an alliance aimed at supplying avionics and landing systems for use in the CIS. The Honeywell initiative is focused on a broad range of short-, medium- and long-term projects, unlike previous pioneering moves in the CIS by AlliedSignal and Collins. Those were essentially programme-specific. Main targets of the alliance include the development of an integrated avionics suite based on Honeywell technology for several CIS-built aircraft, the establishment of a satellite landing-system for use in the CIS, and the upgrade of avionics equipment now used on the current fleet. Aircraft involved in the various projects could include the Tupolev Tu-204, Tu-334 and Tu-324. The -120 version of Tu-204, powered by Rolls-Royce RB.211-535 engines is already the focus of joint upgrade efforts by AlliedSignal and Honeywell, with the latter planning to supply the Versatile Integrated Avionics (VIA) 2000 suite for later aircraft on order from Sirocco Aerospace International (Flight International, 11-17 June). Other aircraft identified by the alliance as potential targets include the Ilyushin Il-96 and Il-114, Antonov An-140, Kamov KA-62 and Mil MI-38.
