Honeywell has won a contract to supply reaction-wheel assemblies to Japan for the Solar B space mission to study the Sun.

Under a contract announced at the show the company will supply Japan¹s Institute of Space and Astronautical Science with one engineering model and four operational RWAs for the spacecraft, which will be launched in 2005.

The units will stabilise, position and control the spacecraft, which will operate ultra-violet and X-ray instruments to investigate the interaction between the Sun¹s magnetic field and its corona.

Honeywell has supplied over 800 RWAs for spacecraft in the past 35 years and estimates that there are 600 operational units in space.
