Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics and Bombardier Aerospace have jointly announced that the head-up-display guidance system (HGS) on the Challenger 604 business jet has been granted an FAA supplemental type certificate (STC).

The Flight Dynamics system on the Challenger 604 offers a 'full flight regime' display, usable for takeoff, climb, cruise, descent and approach and is certified for use in weather conditions down to Category II approach minima. Deliveries will begin immediately.

HGS displays key flight information and guidance through a holographic 'combiner' screen in the pilot's normal field of view. The display is focused at optical infinity, allowing the pilot to see other aircraft, airports etc, without changing eye focus. TCAS information is presented head-up permitting the pilot to keep 'eyes out' of the cockpit during critical threat situations.

The Challenger 604's HGS architecture is based on the Canadair Regional Jet configuration which is popular with North American and European airlines, allowing pilots to manage the aircraft while maintaining situational awareness outside the cockpit.
