The International Aero Engines V2500-A5 has been selected to power 20 Airbus A319s operated by Hainan Airlines, poaching the deal from the carrier's traditional supplier CFM International.

The engine purchase that IAE values at $540 million includes a long-term aftermarket agreement with the V2500Select service. Engine deliveries should begin in June 2008.

Hainan has seven A319s in service, according to Flight's ACAS database, with 20 new A319s on order. The CFM56-5B engine was selected by Hainan to power the seven A319s in service today. Until the new order, Hainan has been a loyal CFMI customer, also operating 52 Boeing 737 aircraft powered by CFM56-3 and CFM56-7 engines.
