International Aero Engines (IAE) has landed one of its largest single orders, by taking the major chunk of the engine business from the recent International Lease Finance (ILFC) deal for 50 Airbus A320 family aircraft.

The US leasing company concluded an order in September for 31 A319s (some convertible to A320/A321s), 11 A320s and eight A321-200s, as part of a major order for 126 Airbus and Boeing aircraft to be delivered by 2005.

The 50-aircraft deal boosted ILFC's orderbook for the single-aisle Airbus models to some 185 aircraft, and IAE has been selected to provide V2500-A5s to power 40 of them, with an estimated value of over $570 million. The selection of the V2500 for the 40 additional aircraft boosts IAE's share of ILFC's A320 family orderbook to 60%.

The order could be announced once ILFC decides on engines for 15 A330-200s on order. Engine selection is also awaited on a further order, for Boeing 757s, 767s and 777s. The 737 portion goes uncontested to CFM International.
