Spanish carrier Iberia is to drop its flights from Madrid to Gibraltar this month less than two years after air links resumed on the route.

The Oneworld carrier launched flights between the Spanish capital and Gibraltar at the end of 2006, resuming air links between the two after a near 30-year hiatus following a trilateral agreement between Gibraltar, Spain and the UK.

But a spokeswoman for Iberia says the airline will suspend the route from 28 September, following a review of the route. Iberia initially operated daily flights on the route, but has latterly been serving the link twice-weekly using Airbus A319s.
