Berlin's status as a hub for business aviation has been given a boost thanks to a new Hawker service centre on the show site, unveiled here yesterday by maintenance company Beechcraft Berlin Aviation.

BBA has traded at Schönefeld since 2004 (its previous base was Tempelhof) but it has refurbished and extended its hangar, which now has space for up to 12 aircraft.

The business is the authorised Hawker Beechcraft service provider for much of central and eastern Europe, plus Russia, and its sister Swiss-owned company is a dealer for the marques.

Gregor Bremer, managing director of BBA, said the centre could offer a "comprehensive range" of services to Hawker owners. "Our central position in Europe is a also a great advantage for them."

BBA is one of two business aviation centres at Schönefeld, the other being Lufthansa Bombardier Aviation Services, in which ExecuJet is also a partner.
