Israel Military Industries (IMI) has conducted a first full test-launch of its modular standoff vehicle (MSOV). The weapon was released from an Israeli airforce Boeing F-15 with a payload of inert submunitions.

The MSOV navigated to a pre-planned target and dispersed its submunitions "with great accuracy" says an Israeli source, who adds that there are 2-3 potential customers for the MSOV, as well as the Israeli air force.

IMI is developing the MSOV in competition with the Raytheon AGM-154A Joint Stand Off Weapon. The MSOV is 4m (13ft) long with a wingspan of 2.7m. It can carry a 675kg (1,590lb) payload more than 100 km (62 miles). IMI confirms only that the weapon can carry four types of payloads - dual purpose bomblets, combined effect bomblets, unitary penetrators and anti-runway penetrators.
