Malaysia Airlines has named Mohamed Munir Abdul Majid, the ex-chairman of mobile telephone network company Celcom, as its new chairman to replace Azizan Zainul Abidin, who died suddenly in July.

China Airlines (CAL) has appointed an associate of Taiwan's president as its new chairman. Government-controlled CAL says 52-year-old Chiang Yao-chung has taken over as chairman from 72-year-old Lee Yun-ling, who had been chairman since mid-2000 following a change in government. Lee is to stay on as a board member.

The contract of Qantas Airways chief executive Geoff Dixon, which ran until the end of 2005, has been extended until July 2007. Dixon, 63, has been with Qantas since 1994.

Venezuela's Aeropostal has moved a step closer to launching its Costa Rican start-up named Aeropostal Alas de Centro America. It has appointed three senior managers for the new airline:Luis Fornier (operations), Luis Brenes Fallas (marketing), and Gerardo Delgado Guerrero (maintenance).

Stephen Jones takes over in October as general manager of Freedom Air, the Air New Zealand low-cost unit.
