Two initial points of interest uncovered during the renewed search for missing Malaysia Airline flight MH370 are both believed to be geographical features.
The findings were disclosed in a Malaysian government update on the search for the Boeing 777-200ER which vanished en route to Beijing in March 2014.
Undersea survey specialist Ocean Infinity is using eight autonomous underwater vehicles to support the hunt for the twinjet.
The search, which commenced after an agreement reached on 10 January, had covered some 7,500km² by 4 February.
Two points of interest, at depths of 4,000-4,200m, have been identified. "Upon further investigation these [points] were classified as geological," says the update.
Since the disappearance of the 777 and all those on board only fragments of the aircraft have been recovered, washed up on distant shores, and investigators have been unable to determine the cause of the loss.
