The Iranian air force’s loss of a C-130 in a crash in Tehran on 5 December has underlined the difficulty the service faces in supporting its US-sourced aircraft, acquired up to the late 1970s. All 10 crew and 84 passengers aboard the aircraft died in the accident, along with more than 20 civilians on the ground.
