Elbit Systems has been awarded a 10-year contract likely to be worth more than $15 million to establish a training centre to operate Raytheon Beechcraft King Air 200 aircraft for the Israeli air force.
To be operated under a private finance initiative model where the air force will buy services on a "power by the hour" basis, the military centre will, for the first time in Israel, also provide instruction to civilian pilots, in accordance with international aviation requirements. Israeli airline Arkia and Canadian company Mechtronix will be subcontractors to Elbit in delivering the system.
The training centre will be established on civilian property, with the Elbit-led team providing simulators, training services and maintenance over the life of the programme.
