Japan is to launch 17 satellites on nine H2A (right) and four MV boosters by the end of 2007. The missions will be managed by the new Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, combining the former National Space Development Agency, Institute of Space and Aeronautical Science and National Aerospace Laboratory. The H2A programme will be privatised in 2005. Japan plans an upgraded Mitsubishi H2A able to carry 10,000kg (22,000lb) to orbit, compared with 5,000kg for the 2024 version.
