JetBlue Airways today unveiled its new $875 million terminal at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Features of the 26-gate facility include 40 ticket counters, 65 e-ticket kiosks and a 20-lane security checkpoint. The terminal also has a 225ft long bench to "re-vest" after passing through security and also includes free Wi-fi.
JFK-hubbed JetBlue explains that dual taxi lanes on the runway allow simultaneously departing and arriving aircraft, along with an in-line baggage system to process up to 4,000 bags per hour.
Located behind the old Transworld Airlines terminal, JetBlue's terminal five was designed by Gensler in collaboration with Turner Construction, Arup, DMJM Harris/AECOM and Rockwell Group.
The facility, which officially opens 1 October, is designed to accommodate 20 million passengers annually.
JetBlue supplied $80 million of the funding, while the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey covered the remaining $795 million.
