JetBlue Airways will serve all three New York City airports by October when it adds Newark Liberty – putting it in direct competition with dominant Continental Airlines. The Houston-based carrier promptly lowered fares and added capacity at Newark, mostly on Florida routes. JetBlue, based at New York’s JFK, also serves the city’s LaGuardia airport, buttressing its stronger claim to Continental’s slogan of “hometown airline”. Samantha Panella of Raymond James & Associates says Newark “is a relatively high-fare airport” and that should let JetBlue capture share as it increases to 16 daily departures by November.
...and adds corporate flair
JetBlue has expanded its corporate distribution array, joining the UATP programme and starting a direct booking connection with Outtask, a corporate self-booking tool from Cliqbook. Its link with UATP, the airline-owned corporate payment system, follows its pact with American Express for a co-branded credit card that earns frequent flyer miles.
