JetBlue Airways has signed a codeshare agreement with Cessna 402 operator Cape Air on four routes out of Boston, less than two weeks after the low-cost carrier signed an agreement to provide onward service within the USA for Ireland’s Aer Lingus.
Under the long expected accord the low-cost carrier from March 19 will place its ‘B6’ designator code on Cape Air’s services to Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket and Provincetown as well as its base in Hyannis. All four destinations are within Massachusetts’s Cape Cod region.
Cape Air’s Cessnas, which seat nine passengers, operate hourly services to Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket and Provincetown during the peak summer season. Hyannis requires less capacity notes a Cape Air spokeswoman.
“Together, JetBlue and Cape Air share a commitment to bringing humanity back to air travel, whether by entertaining you with [in-seat television] during your JetBlue flight, or by letting you just sit back and enjoy the spectacular views from the window of a Cape Air Cessna during your short hop to the Cape and Islands,” says JetBlue chief executive David Neeleman.
Adds Cape Air president Dan Wolf: “For 18 years, Cape Air has provided air service for those who live, work and play in some of the most beautiful vacation destinations in the world.
“Since our inception, Cape Air has strived to engender a positive work place with outstanding service by liberating, empowering and trusting our employees to make the right decisions on behalf of the customer. Both companies share the spirit, energy and, I daresay, sense of humor that may actually make your travel experience to Cape Cod and the Islands not only convenient but fun.”
Cape Air also operates a codeshare with Continental Airlines.
