Commercial flights in and out of Bangkok will switch to the city's new Suvarnabhumi Airport on 28 September but Singapore-based low-cost carrier Jetstar Asia will be one of two airlines moving in early, writes Leithen Francis.

Jetstar Asia says that its Bangkok flights will switch to Suvarnabhumi Airport on 15 September. According to Innovata Jetstar Asia operates on the Singapore-Bangkok route thrice-daily using Airbus A320s.

Thai Airways last month disclosed that as of 15 September five of its domestic flights each day will use Suvarnabhumi Airport. The flights are Bangkok-Phitsanulok thrice-daily, Bangkok-Ubon Ratchathani daily and Bangkok-Chiang Mai daily.

Both Thai Airways and Jetstar say the reason for transferring some flights to the new airport before other carriers move on 28 September is to help Airports of Thailand test systems and ensure there is a smooth transition.

Neither airline indicates whether the airport operator has provided discounts on charges for moving in prior to 28 September.
