GE Engine Services is moving into the Japanese market, having signed a Memorandum of Intent (MoI) to acquire a controlling interest in an aircraft maintenance partnership between All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries (IHI).

The resulting joint venture - in which ANA and IHI will maintain a minority ownership - will undertake aircraft engine component repair at facilities in Yokoshiba .

Operations are scheduled to begin in April 2000 and GE Engine Services' president and CEO, Bill Vareschi, says: "Our familiarity with aircraft engine design criteria and operating environment allows us to provide the highest-quality, most reliable component repair. We welcome the opportunity to join ANA and IHI in providing this expertise in Japan."

The new venture in Japan joins GE Engine Services' existing world-wide network of overhaul and repair centres.
