Keystone Helicopter has been selected by Los Angeles County to customise two new Bell 412EP helicopters.
Keystone, which was bought by Sikorsky last year, says the estimated cost to customise both aircraft is $2.3 million, and all work, including design and engineering approvals, will be performed at Keystone’s completion facility in Coatesville, Pennsylvania. Keystone expects to receive the helicopters in March and deliver them mid-year.
As well as day and night aerial firefighting, the fire department’s fleet of eight helicopters performs a wide range of missions, including emergency medical service transport, search and rescue, firefighting crew transport and command and control.
In addition to on-board firefighting and medical equipment, both helicopters will have electric hoists and rappelling equipment, searchlights and night vision goggle-compatible lighting.
