The army has exercised a $5.2 million contract option to add the Comanche to the platforms capable of being simulated by the reconfigurable AVCATT. L-3's Link Simulation &Training subsidiary is already developing the trailer-mounted trainer suite to simulate the Bell OH-58, Boeing AH-64A/D and CH-47, and Sikorsky UH-60.

By using a helmet-mounted display to present cockpit and outside-world imagery, it is possible to reconfigure an AVCATT simulator between helicopter types within 90min, says L-3. The system comprises two trailers, each housing a reconfigurable simulator. The suite includes a battle master control station and after-action review theatre.

L-3 is under contract to produce the first two of a planned 30 AVCATT suites for the US Army.
