L2 Consulting Services has received US FAA supplemental type certification for the installation of an Inmarsat Swiftbroadband upgrade to Rockwell Collins' SAT-2100 satcom system on Boeing 777 series aircraft.
The installation was accomplished on a V Australia 777-300ER, says L2, whose contract is with Rockwell Collins.
"This [aircraft already] had a base SAT-2100, so it went from a SAT-2100 to a SATt-2100B and that's the SwiftBroadband version," L2 president Mark Lebovitz tells ATI and Flightglobal.
He adds that this was the first air transport supplemental type certificate offered outside of factory installation for the SAT-2100B system.
V Australia has been working to bring in-flight mobile connectivity - and connected in-flight entertainment - to its 777s under an arrangement with Panasonic Avionics and its partner AeroMobile.
The incorporation of the Swiftbroadband upgrade accomplished by L2 supports higher speed data, which allows more simultaneous users and more demanding applications.
