LAN Cargo will expand long-haul operations with the acquisition of four Boeing 777F Freighters.
Boeing announced on November 5 that LAN has committed to buy two 777Fs worth a combined $500 million and lease two more from GE Commercial Aviation Services (GECAS). LAN’s directly purchased aircraft were previously listed by Boeing as sold to an unidentified customer.

“LAN’s long-haul cargo operations will gain unmatched efficiency with the 777 Freighter, which offers more capacity and greater range than any other twin-engine freighter,” John Wojick, Boeing Commercial VP sales, Latin America and the Caribbean, says in a statement.
Boeing is currently developing the 777F, which is due to enter flight tests in late 2008.
Boeing also confirmed LAN’s previously announced acquisition of 32 787s.
