The European Space Agency (ESA), French space agency CNES and satellite manufacturer Astrium have for the first time transmitted an image by laser link between two satellites. The transmission between ESA's Artemis satellite, at an altitude of 19,000 miles (31,000km), and CNES's Spot 4 satellite at 517 miles, followed a series of tests last month (Flight International, 4-10 December).
