Irish-based aircraft lessor AWAS has ordered 75 Airbus A320s, complementing an order for up to 50 Boeing 737s placed last year.

No engine selection has been given for the A320s.

AWAS says the order is a “natural extension” of the incoming portfolio it gained when it took over US lessor Pegasus Aviation Finance last year.

“Consistent with our long-term strategy, this deal further diversifies our fleet,” says AWAS president Franklin Pray.

It takes Dublin-based AWAS’ Airbus portfolio to 136 aircraft. Airbus says the firm order is the first to be announced by the airframer for 2008.

AWAS placed an order in December for 31 Boeing 737s and put purchase rights on a further 19.
