Russian Helicopters is continuing with an upgrade programme for its Mi-26 heavy lift helicopter, which has been designated the Mi-26T, and is undergoing flight tests.
The helicopter has a BREO-26 avionics suite and a glass cockpit equipped with five multi-functional LCD screens, which can display a coloured image of external load, a new digital autopilot and a new navigation system.
A new light allows visual control of external loads at night, and is capable of both standard and infrared lighting, to be used in combination with night-vision goggles.

The company said the D-136-2 engines are a step forward in the company's use of full authority digital engine control, have an emergency power output of 12,500hp (9,321kW), available at temperatures up to 30°C (86°F), and take off power that has been increased by 250hp (186kW) at maximum take off mode.
The new avionics allow the operation of this helicopter at any point on the planet, and let it perform flights to international instrument flight rules standards.
The total crew headcount has been brought down to two from five, providing for an operator to work with the external sling if necessary.
The remaining cabin space allows additional people to accompany loads, the company said.
The Mi-26T can lift large-size cargo items weighing up to 20 tonnes, either inside the cargo compartment or on an external sling. A combined internal and external load configuration is also possible, the company added.
