Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has promoted from within and given senior general manager of sales, distribution and marketing Ahmad Fuaad Dahalan the top job of managing director.

Ahmad Fuaad, 54, replaces Mohamad Nor Yusof. Yusof was recently named chairman of Malaysia's Securities Commission.

The new managing director had headed sales, distribution and marketing since June 2001. Prior to that he was stationed in London as the airline's vice-president for the UK and Europe.

He has been with the airline for around 30 years, during which time he has held other overseas posts, including in the Philippines, France and the USA.

Mohamad Nor had been managing director of MAS since early in 2001, after the government completed a renationalisation of the then-troubled airline.
