Japan will take delivery of its first helicopter to be dedicated to emergency medical missions when Aero Asahi receives an MD Explorer next month.

Tomen Aerospace, the MD Helicopters distributor in Japan, sold the aircraft to Aero Asahi, which will join forces with a Japanese hospital to operate the Explorer as part of a government-supported trial programme.

The aircraft, featuring the Notar tailrotorless anti-torque system will join four other Explorers operated by Aero Asahi. Three are used for electronic news gathering and one patrols power lines in Tokyo.
