Meggitt Safety Systems has achieved a remarkable one billion flying hours without one fire missed but the company is looking to go one better.

Meggitt (Hall 2B, K14) is now pioneering new technology aimed at cutting false alarm rates in smoke detection systems.

It describes its latest cargo bay smoke and fire detection system as the world's first microprocessor-based system that senses smoke, heat and carbon monoxide signatures from a single box, continuously reporting them to an intelligent, network-based control and monitoring unit - and, of course, the flight warning computer if the alarm algorithm is met.

While improving false alarm immunity, this lightweight system also uses less power, space and spares than conventional systems.
