Taiwanese carriers Mandarin Airlines and Formosa Airlines were merged in July as part of the country's consolidation efforts. The airlines, both closely linked to national carrier China Airlines, will operate as Mandarin on domestic and regional routes. CAL's shareholding in the larger carrier stands at 90%, but this will be reduced to less than 70% by the end of the year.
