Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has signed a contract with Lockheed Martin to licence-produce Mk41 missile vertical launch systems (VLS) for use on Japanese Murasame-class destroyers. The initial $70 million contract covers assembly and test of eight eight-cell modules. Each destroyer will be equipped with four modules, capable of launching a range of missiles.
