Parker Aerospace announced several flight control deals for cutting-edge Embraer, Gulfstream and Cessna aircraft at NBAA, worth a combined total of around $2 billion.
Parker has been selected by Embraer to supply the complete fly-by-wire flight control system and all hydraulic and fuel system components for the new Legacy 450/500 executive business jet aircraft. The contract is valued at an estimated $1.1bn.
Parker has also been selected by Gulfstream to supply the fly-by-wire flight control actuation system for its brand new G650 business jet aircraft – a contract worth an estimated $390 million.
The Parker Control Systems Division will design and manufacture the system, including the primary aileron, rudder, elevator, and spoiler flight control actuation and control electronics. First flight of the aircraft is scheduled for late 2009, with expected customer deliveries in 2012.
In addition, Parker will supply the powered flight control system for Cessna’s new large cabin, intercontinental aircraft, the Model 850 Citation Columbus. The contract, expected to be worth $400 million, consists of design and manufacturing responsibility for the primary and secondary flight controls, including roll, pitch, and yaw axes, high lift, stabilizer trim, and speed brake controls.
Technologies for the new flight control system incorporate both fly-by-wire and conventional hydraulic actuation to enhance the safety and performance capabilities of the aircraft.
