The men in white coats are after you. Flight Display Systems (booth 1911) has adopted a "laboratory" theme to highlight the work done by engineers working for its new products division developing avionics products.

The Georgia-based company this morning unveiled some of its new products at NBAA. These include a 3D moving map and a facial recognition system that allows operators to "remember" regular passengers’ details and preferences.

Other latest innovations comprise a Blu-ray player for in-flight entertainment, with front slot loader; a high-definition cockpit camera that allows passengers to watch their aircraft taxi, take off and land and a cabin management system for the iPad.

While bigger rivals such as Rockwell Collins focus on new aircraft, 10-year-old FDS’s range of IFE products are pitched at retrofit customers, says marketing specialist Dave Dodson (pictured).Company president David Gray describes FDS’s new products lab as "a playground where we work with some of our more adventurous customers and play around with prototypes of some of our wild and crazy ideas."

FDS is giving away 200 pairs of noise cancelling headphones during the show, drawing a winner each hour from visitors to the booth who leave business cards.
