Embraer has revealed for NBAA a pixilated paint scheme on the first Legacy 500, emphasizing the mid-size jet's unique three-axis fly-by-wire technology. Fly-by-wire is increasingly common on military aircraft and large airliners, but is rare in business jets. The Legacy 500 is the smallest business jet application to date with fly-by-wire. Embraer originally sourced the integration of the electronically directed flight controls from Parker Aerospace, but assumed control of the system after it was delayed by a year. Parker remains a supplier to Embraer on the fly-by-wire system, along with BAE Systems. First flight of the Legacy 500 is expected by the end of the year, with delivery to the first customer scheduled in late 2013. It will be followed with the first flight of the mid-size Legacy 450.
