General Aviation airports in New Jersey have received $1.8 million in state funding to help revitalise the struggling facilities.
"General Aviation is a vital economic engine that supports more than 18,000 jobs in New Jersey, and contributes $1.7 billion to the state's economy each year," says Craig Fuller, president of the US Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
Six grants have been awarded in total. Recipients include Lincoln Park airport in Morris County, which supports 29,000 general aviation operations annually. Other beneficiaries include Sky Manor in Pittstown, Eagles Nest airport in Eagleswood Township, Lakewood airport in Lakewood, Essex County Airport in Fairfield.
The government says the investment is justified due to the airports' "vital role in New Jersey's complex and diverse transportation network".
