The launch pad used to launch the cancelled Energia heavy lift booster and Buran space shuttle from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan will be modified for launches of Soyuz boosters carrying manned Soyuz and unmanned Progress spacecraft. Launch pad processing buildings will be used to prepare space station modules for the Alpha programme.
