The US Marine Corps' Northrop Grumman EA-6B Prowler electronic warfare aircraft are to receive Northrop Litening AT targeting pods, with the first of six to 12 pod-equipped aircraft to be deployed to Iraq as early as the second quarter of this year.
To be drawn from existing USMC stocks, the electro-optical/infrared pods will be carried on a left wing stores station, and an existing cockpit display modified to show imagery to the crew.
The Litening AT addition could also help the EA-6B perform one of its key roles in Iraq - countering improvised explosive devices - by jamming cellphone and other signals.
