London Heathrow's Pier 6 will have four A380 stands, each equipped with two air bridges that can serve main and upper deck doors. All the stands can accommodate a third airbridge, but these will only be implemented on a "commercial basis" with funding by the airlines, says BAA business and strategic development director Eryl Smith.

Two of the stands will be multiple aircraft ramp system (MARS) capable, enabling them to accommodate two narrowbody aircraft, each with airbridge access, when not in use for the A380. In the longer term Pier 6 can be extended to double its A380 stand capacity to eight.
