Pratt & Whitney Canada is getting ever-closer to having a launch customer for its trail-blazing PW800 geared turbofan engine.
The company announced at the show yesterday that it had received a letter from Sukhoi, stating that P&WC was now on a shortlist of two (with SNECMA) to power the Russian Regional Jet (RRJ) being jointly developed with Ilyushin and Boeing.
P&WC is also in advanced discussions with the Chinese industry for the PW800 to power the proposed 70-90-seat ARJ21.
Spanning the 10,000-20,000lb (44.5-89kN) thrust range, the new PW800 family will bridge the gap between the PW300 (5,000-8,000lb thrust) and the PW6000 family in the 20,000lb-plus thrust range.
The engine is being developed by P&WC and its European partners MTU of Germany and FiatAvio of Italy.
