From a small company in Edgewood, Maryland comes Strikegrid, a product with a big responsibility protecting exposed portions of Boeing's new 787 Dreamliner from the ravages of lightning.
Ron Riemer, sales and marketing manager for Alcore, a subsidiary of the MC Gill company, says the special sauce is a corrosion-resistant aluminium foil surfacing material that protects exposed surfaces, like engine nacelles and control surfaces, that tend to act as lightning rods.
A host of 787 suppliers are purchasing Strikegrid, which comes in rolls that are already coated with corrosion protection in a proprietary process, says Riemer.
