Flight Insight, the analytical arm of Flight International, has just published its latest in-depth data reports on commercial aircraft and spy platforms.
Flight Insight's 2009 ISR Special Report examines the world of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. It reveals that North America has the greatest concentration of ISR operations with a 42% share of the global market. Europe and Asia-Pacific follow with 27% and 19% respectively.
In terms of role, both maritime patrol and reconnaissance dominate the world market. Combined, this equates to a share of 67%, with active aircraft totalling 1,351. The most widely used ISR aircraft in the world is the Lockheed P-3 Orion, which is primarily used in a maritime patrol role, but also performs electronic warfare, reconnaissance and weather reconnaissance missions.
Commercial Fleet Report 2009 provides a snapshot of the global commercial passenger and freighter aircraft fleet with data on in-service fleets, orders, average ages, historical fleet development and engine market share. Information is provided in tabular and graphic formats, and broken down by category: widebody, narrowbody, regional jets and turboprops.
An example of the data included is the engine manufacturers' market share of the Airbus A320 family fleet, which reveals that the majority (58%) of in-service aircraft are equipped with CFM International CFM56 engines.
